I want to try something here—an exchange. I’d like to get the community a little more involved in Adjusting the Dial. I’d like to know you’re out there receiving the transmissions. If you like something, let me know. Wanna see more of something? You can also let me know.
But let’s start with this…
I think most of us have a subset of art we enjoy we could label “comfort food” or “comfort art,” I suppose. C A R T…because I love smushing two words together to form a new, more complete representation of what materializes when “two become one,” as the Spice Girls so eloquently put it. Like Bennifer, Brangelina, and of course, Kimye.
Many of us have an album, song, film, book, poem, or painting that we keep coming back to. We return to it for a myriad of reasons: 1) Comfort—it’s easy; it makes us feel good; it reminds us of a certain time in our life; it helps unstick something in us that is stuck, and 2) It is the gift that keeps on giving. Something new is revealed with every return visit—words we hadn’t heard before, images we hadn’t seen; characters we hadn’t considered; lessons we hadn’t learned. It’s as if the piece continues to grow with us, offering something substantial that could only be seen, heard or felt at that particular visit; that precise juncture in our life.
Here are a few of my CART albums…
Donny Hathaway Live
Jeff Buckley Live at Sine
Stevie Wonder Music of my Mind
Nina Simone Little Girl Blue

What are yours? Drop them in the comments. I’d love to have some new music to discover or reconsider, and I’m sure others here will too.
Look forward to hearing from you.
