I had the privilege of being asked to sing on the upcoming record of friend, producer, music maker, and DJ, Alex Penney.
I’ve worked with Alex for many years now on a variety of projects at Monarch Studios, including Station 234.
Before coming into the studio, my instructions from Alex were that he wanted us to improvise as much as possible. In the past, my efforts in situations like these have often been hampered by my own insecurity. But Alex’s enthusiasm and generosity during the session created a space for us all to be our best musical selves. I’m excited for you to hear this record.
Side note: Alex recently invited me to hear a site-specific project of his at Lobe—the first dedicated spatial sound studio in North America to work with a permanently integrated 4DSOUND system. I was blown away by the power of his piece and the power of hearing music in that room. And now I want to share that with you. Alex and I are cooking up a few special 4D mixes from my new album that we will premiere at Lobe. More news to come on that front soon.
