What to Expect from Adjusting the Dial
Thanks so much for signing up. I thought it might be helpful to parse out the types of posts you will see here.
FIRST DRAFT
These will be pieces from me that are currently in progress: stories or songs I’m working on; clips from the music documentary my creative partner, Jenny, and I have been working on for the last 10 years!; scraps of melody; music video storyboards; etc.
SNEAK PEEK
This will be a showcase of finished pieces before their official release—everything from songs, to music videos, to short stories, to album art, to...you get the picture.
FILE UNDER
This is the “Observations of” or “Memories of” or “Thoughts on” category. A bit of a catch-all with an official sounding name.
GRATEFUL FOR
Yes, I do keep a gratitude journal, with a varying degree of frequency. Right now it’s frequent. It’s a worthwhile way for me to hit the pause button on life for a second and recognize all of the good, cutting through a monkey mind that self-directs towards the fearful and the bad. A miniature meditation, if you will.
THE ARCHIVES
My creative business partner (Jenny) and I co-own and operate a creative house, and label for my music, called Golden Future Recordings. The idea for the label started when we were on the heels of releasing my album, Golden Future Time. Our UK PR team said no one was going to give the record a second look if it wasn’t released by a label. So we made one up. In an Egyptian eatery in Hull, England. And a year later we incorporated it.
From this creative house we have produced, and continue to produce, many creative projects. Lucky for us, Jenny is a photographer and documentarian, so there is lots of archival material that hasn’t yet been shared. Some of that includes footage from our international soul music series, Propeller; clips from our interactive concert television program, Station 234; and original blueprints from our lesser-known cookbook series, What to do with Kohlrabi, Sunchoke, and Nopales.
There is also archival journal entries of mine, footage from past festival shows, songs I never released, designs for album art, etc.
DISPATCHES FROM
A.K.A., behind-the-scenes. These will be recordings, video or audio, from wherever I find myself at the current moment. Hopefully that is somewhere interesting. If it isn’t, I’ll make sure the dispatch is audio only and imagine my way into something more enchanting for you.
EAR CANDY
…or eye candy. These are creative pieces and projects from others that are awakening some part of me, and gifting me the opportunity to see the world anew.
I won’t pretend to know what you like, but let me say that, unlike candy, you may not become addicted upon first preview of whatever I post here. Many of the things I like the most, particularly with music, I don’t understand, and sometimes, don’t even like, the first time I try them. But at some point, with the gift of re-consideration, I am hit with that full-blown sugar-rush.
Also unlike candy, and according to my nutritional standards, whatever you find here will be nourishing in some way, shape or form.
So maybe this should be called Ear Nutrition, or David’s Food Guide, or The Daily Recommended. But that might remind you of broccoli, and what I want you to be thinking of is the Cheez-Whiz on top.
