The title track from Joni’s album, Night Ride Home.
This song is the hypnosis of the night ride home. The dark roads, red tail light glare, headlight gleam and silver power lines. It’s urban streets and country roads, main roads and A-roads, highways and byways. It’s the quiet cabin of your car, the hours after midnight, that liminal space that spurs reflection. This song takes joy and wonder in the peace that settles into a space like this.
Before sending you this iPhone recording I put it on in the car on my own night ride home, traveling north on the I-5, leaving Stanwood, Washington, at 11:30pm. A test drive before sharing it with you to listen. I think the spirit is there.
Also, I missed the 3 year anniversary of Adjusting the Dial last month and an opportunity to write to say Thank You. Thank you for reading, listening and for participating in all shapes and forms, be it a song suggestion in the New Year, a thoughtful email, a shared story in the comments or a like. And a special thanks to all of the paid subscribers. More to come soon.
love,
David
